Changing lives around the world with education and safe water

The heart of My Mother Land's mission lies in addressing a significant problem that has plagued Zimbabwe for far too long - the lack of access to quality education, particularly for children in rural areas. It's a problem rooted in socio-economic disparities and geographical isolation. In these remote regions, the educational landscape is marked by inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, and a lack of opportunities, severely constraining the growth and development of children.

By providing access to quality education and nurturing curiosity, leadership, and creativity in these children, we can unlock their potential. This, in turn, will create a ripple effect within their communities, fostering not only personal growth but also contributing to Zimbabwe's broader societal and economic development.

What We Will Do About the Problem

My Mother Land is uniquely positioned to address this issue, primarily because our founder, Tonderai Tomu, has experienced the transformative power of education firsthand. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tonderai not only represented his country as an athlete but also became an educator and a current track and field/cross country coach at the Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio. Moreover, he is a living testament to the impact of scholarships, which enabled him to receive a quality education.

Changing lives with safe water resources and sanitation

Many villages use wells they have dug by hand and place logs over the opening to stand on while drawing water. These wells can collapse dangerously and sometimes livestock or even people fall into them. If they are not deep enough, wells may go dry late in the dry season. Also, when the rains begin, storm runoff washes debris into them, polluting the water if the opening is not raised and protected.

Our goal is to build wells that filter the water for communities and reduce the risk of families drinking contaminated water.
